What is Track & Trace

Track & Trace is the groundbreaking solution for seamlessly monitoring and securing your products. By assigning a globally unique identification code, you can track and document the entire life cycle of a product from production to the point of sale. This code is tamper-proof and is applied to the product or a special, non-removable label in such a way that tampering is virtually impossible. The result? How does Track & Trace work?

The Track & Trace process is divided into two main components: Tracking and tracing.

Tracking: the identification of your products

The first step is to assign a unique identification code to each product.
Depending on your company’s requirements and any legal requirements, these codes can either be purchased or generated in-house.
This code can be a QR code, data matrix or dot code and is either printed directly on the product or on a non-removable label.
RFID chips can also be used for certain applications.

Aggregation: from individual product to pallet

Individual products are often grouped together in larger units, such as containers, cartons and pallets.
Each of these aggregation levels is also given a unique identification code.
These codes need to be registered in a system that manages the relationship between the codes on the individual products and those on the larger units.
In a manual process, this is done by scanning and assigning the codes using special software.
In automated production lines, cameras and printers take over these tasks and report the data to the central system.

Tracing: The traceability of your products

As soon as the products have gone through their manufacturing process, the trace part begins.
At every point in the supply chain – whether warehouse, truck or point of sale – the location of the products is given a unique code and registered in a system.
This enables you to track exactly where a product is at any time and which route it has taken.
This plays a crucial role in logistics in particular, as every change of location must be documented.
Here too, scanners or RFID antennas are used to capture and process the corresponding identification codes.
